International Buffet Versus Hawker Stalls..

My sisters went for an International Buffet in the Gurney Hotel itself, for those aged 55 years and over, the buffet was only RM35.00! So So Cheap!! But for us under 55, (ahem) we were charged RM51.00... So So Expensive!

I opted out, me and my kids didnt join them for the buffet, (pokai if 4 of us x 51) Instead we went for our humble meal in Free Zone Garden again, our favorite stalls....hawker style, sitting on benches, sipping sour sop fruit juice... hmmmm...

aluminium foiled grilled food

grilled fish with squids and ladies fingers

grilled barbecue chicken

sweet sour clams

steamed crabs

our sour sop juice

cheers!!!
Instead of spending RM200 over in the buffet,
our dinner for the night only cost us RM80.00..
but of course the food would be very much different...

  13. I always prefer the roadside... I very cincai wan, tepi longkang oso I dun mind. Usually hawker food taste nicer though the ambience's not so nice! I cheapskate, hor Claire? But, tak kisahlah.. as long as food nice and cheap, I dun gv a damn about where and how the presentation is.

  14. I think you made a wise decision to go for hawker food instead. Nowadays, buffets are so pricey and the food are just so so. Besides, if you cannot eat a lot, you are just wasting your money! Better order a-la-carte.

  15. waa the crab so big....hhhahhaha

  16. Wise decision! In Penang, go hawker - not the big restaurants, not the classy places... The best food is at the hawker stalls.

Hotel food - all the same. After some time, you get so sick of it. And so very expensive - even RM35, can eat a whole lot of nicer things at the hawker stalls already!

  17. tekkaus: yes, i love that dish, never fail to order...

mery: more worth than eating buffet but of course, buffet got air con la.. hahaaa..

    medie007: cute? hahhaa..

cleff: come shake hands! once awhile must go enjoy under the air con too.. a mixture of everything lar.. but better if people belanja! lol...

foongpc: for me and my girl, it is a wastage if we go for buffet, but for my 2 sons, it is more than worth.. hahha.. so it sorts of balanced up...

manglish: actually not very big one.. looks big only...

stp: for you, i think 35rm worth it la.. got wine some more, and grilled lamb, teriyaki, sushi, eastern, western food.. desserts.. worth la for men..

  19. That looks amazing. Buffets are okay but I find they cost more than what you can eat. And I'm always unsure of food sitting out like that. So glad you came by to visit!

  29. You were able to enjoy the better food at a very cheap price. Food in the hotel are not better since you are just paying for the amenities and ambiance of the hotel. You made the wise and right choice. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

  30. rachel: don't let her see this! she will kick me.. lol.. in fact, she covered all our expenses but where food is concerned, i made my own choice.. for 200rm, i rather eat something i really enjoy...
