Essential Gadgets for Responsible Drivers

Being a responsible driver isn’t easy when the entire road is against you. Not only do many drivers seem to pay absolutely no attention to the road or other people, they also don’t seem to understand how to driver their vehicles properly. This is why a course in defensive driving is perhaps the most useful thing any responsible driver could invest in. However, even if you have the knowledge to drive safely and account for other people, that doesn’t mean you’re going to be able to avoid accidents.

If you truly want to be a responsible driver, you’re going to have to invest a little more money into your vehicle and here are just some of the essential gadgets.

Dashboard Camera
You’re going to have to record everything that happens if you want to make a good insurance claim should you end up in an accident that wasn’t your fault. Not only can it help you, but your dashboard camera can make a huge difference to other people’s insurance claims as well. For instance, if your dashboard camera catches drivers who are speeding or manages to record what really happened in an incident that wasn’t your fault, you could potentially help those drivers seek justice by giving them what was recorded on your dashboard camera.

Emergency Lights
One of the most important things to carry is a set of lights for emergency vehicles. For instance, you could be an emergency first responder and instead of driving past traffic and beeping at everyone who’s in your way, you should simply attach it to the top of your vehicle and signal to everyone that you’re an emergency vehicle that has to get somewhere as soon as possible. There are also other emergency lights. For example, you could have broken down in the middle of the road and you’re going to need some emergency strobe lights to indicate to oncoming drivers that you can’t move from your position. It’s also helpful for letting people know that you’ve broken down when it’s dark.

Car Maintenance Devices
If you want to keep your car in great shape, then you’d better carry some handy tech such as a tire pressure gauge and a vehicle diagnostics device. A digital tire pressure gauge will let you accurately examine the pressure inside of each tire. Tire pressure is something that every driver should be monitoring before they set off on the road because it can negatively affect the way your vehicle handles. Too much pressure and you lose traction and it can damage the tire. Too little pressure and your car will be unresponsive and could put your safety at risk.

A typical vehicle diagnosis device plugs into the OBD-II port of your vehicle. Where this is located depends on the make and model of your vehicle, so consult your manual if you plan to purchase one.  You can pair digital car maintenance devices with smartphones (most of the time) to receive detailed information about your car’s health. This information isn’t for beginners, so it’s recommended you have a bit of knowledge about how to diagnose problems in a vehicle and how to fix basic issues before investing in these.
