Hock Kee Teochew Porridge, Medan Ipoh, Ipoh

*TEOCHEW NANG CHIAK MUIH*  (Teochew clan eat porridge)

I LOVE porridge, I grow up eating porridge, whether it is plain or cooked with chicken, pork or fish... or even frog porridge... in fact my whole family loves porridge, the reason must be from my mom who frequently cooked porridge for us when we were young.  Another main reason is that my late father is from the Teochew clan and from there, maybe my mom cook porridge very often...

My kids love porridge too.. especially cooked with peanuts and roasted pork bones.  They can eat a big portion without realizing how much they have taken... LOL...  It is no more a "poor man's meal" eating porridge nowadays, in fact eating porridge outside can be more expensive than eating a plate of "chap farn" (mixed rice)

One evening we came to Hock Kee Teochew Porridge restaurant at Medan Ipoh... first time going there and we just ordered three dishes to go with our three bowls of white porridge.
Teochew styled porridge... plain white soft rice....

Claypot Beancurd with raw egg....
Oh, eggs with bitter gourd...
And minced meat with salted fish...
Long time no take!
Three dishes with three bowls of porridge cost around RM40.
Portions are quite big so it is more than enough for us...
Nice?

  4. Looks so good and comforting! It must be great if you are sick, too. Go ahead and laugh at me, but I am unsure just what porridge IS. Here, we have oatmeal, and we eat quite a lot. But this does not look like oats. What grain is it? So you cook it for five minutes like oatmeal?

    1. I won't laugh.. hahaa... Porridge is from rice, only thing is that we have to put more water and cook it longer to make it soft..
