Report card day... I read about young mommies going to kindies to get their kids' progress or report card as we called it... and that includes me as well though my kid is not kindy but in secondary....
Supposed to start at 10.30am but I reached her school at 10.15am... kiasu ma.. go earlier to beat the crowd...and true enough, there was not many parents around. I could only see one teacher there in the hall and as I slowly walked over to her...
In my heart I was thinking to myself, "let this teacher be the one (my girl's teacher)" Great, she indeed was her form teacher and I gladly greeted her, "Good morning, Miss Y.... so nice to see you here." Miss Y looked up and responded, "Good morning, nice to see you too." She must be thinking whether she has seen me before somewhere or not... lol... She didn't know that I was relieved to see her as no other teachers were around yet except for her.....
Then after a short courtesy talk about my girl's performance, I wanted to shoot off. Before we left, her teacher said "bye, sweetheart" to m girl... Wahhh.. I was startled and started to ask my girl why her teacher called her that... My girl replied, "haiyah, she calls every student, sweetheart la.. " oooohhh... during my time, teachers never called us that before.. i could only remember one teacher used to call us students, "idiots!" sigh.....
Ok, lets look at the report paper... no more booklet like I used to have last time...
I was shocked to see the marking goes like this liow..
3 is High credit? 3.25 is Super Credit? Yo... looks alien to me...
3.5 - Distinction, ok acceptable..
4 - High Distinction? Gosh... don't know whether to scratch my head or laughed over this or not...

My Uni has High Distinction, not new. But Super Credit???? Why they don't have Super Distinction. lol
ReplyDeleteWow! So your girl is extremly smart and studies well! You must be so proud of her!! Well, you just HAVE to do something with her or for her or have a celebration of some sort!! You are so blessed to have such wonderful children! Hope you have a great weekend!! I would be shouting this to the world right now! Give her a big hug for me.
ReplyDeleteHi Reana, Holy Smoke! What has become of the '100', i.e. getting say 60% out of 100?
ReplyDeleteNow 3.75? Must be some joker nothing better to do come out with this figures, ha ha.
And the 'sweetheart'? I think its abit unusual a teacher calling students that, luckily not male teacher, habis cherita, parents raise 2 eyebrows.
Old days my mom no need see teachers, she gets reular mail of her son, and all roughly meaning, 'you son has no hope, no furture', ha ha. Oh well, I did try my best.
Have a great weekend, Lee.
aiyoooooo see the marking oso pening oredi....
ReplyDeleteEvery one is high or super or distinction. Very very good leh! Surely I am feeling very proud for you.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, calling children "sweetheart" or "darling" or "honey" is nothing unusual in the Western culture. When I first went to UK, the older ladies in the market called me in those manner and at first I have cultural shock! Then when I attended lectures, the older lecturers/technicians called me "Son, ...." LOL. Actually I got used to it. I also called younger boys "son, ...." LOL. So don't be surprised if I call young girl "Honey...". HAHAHA
Really pening leh. But looking at those words like super, high, highest credit or distinction must be very good results lor.. Congrats to you and your girl!
ReplyDeletePelajar Cemerlang Sekolah Gemilang. Hehehehe! I remember my classmate was called "Handsome" by my teacher, as he was quite good looking among all.
ReplyDeletei got one ex-teacher who got a fancy for boys.even if the boy students makes mistakes, she'd just says "oh dear my dear boy boy !" she got 5 daughters - no son ....kekeke
ReplyDeleteWah...the list is pretty long....
ReplyDeleteWah...the list is pretty long....

ReplyDeleteor A1, A2, B3, B4..
ReplyDeleteyea now everything is changed dy. not fair!! lol
ReplyDeletethese are very good results. she has done well
ReplyDeletewow, congrats, very good results!
ReplyDeleteErm... OMG??! Why so confusing wan? Last time mine wasn't like this wor... And certainly my teacher did not call me sweetheart *jealous* :P
ReplyDeleteThings were simpler and less stressful back then. " we had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun"
ReplyDeleteWow, I dint know there're so many classes now! Nowadays, being parents isnt easy, and being a student is even harder!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.A different kind of post from you.Good to see your student fairing well.Sweetheart is a given thing these days.People tend to talk like this nowadays.
ReplyDeleteTimes certainly have changed... Like age, marks are just numbers - it's the person that is most important, that will determine what kind of future he/she will have.
ReplyDeleteI can show you a whole lot of straight A students who know nuts - Ask anything not going to be tested in their exams, they do not know, ask anything that has been tested, they can't remember. They only memorise for the As in the exam...and delete the files after that! Never have I seen young people so ignorant, so...brainless!
wow, this is something really new to me. so many different kinds of credits. why make things so confusing eh?
ReplyDeleteeh...i used to have a teacher who called us sweethearts. maybe she's the same teacher you met since your daughter is from the same school i was ;)
Gosh, what the heck is that? Have never seen this kind of grading before! So confusing! There's only A,A+,A-....& so on. So, how's her result?
ReplyDeleteHigh Distinction and High Credit are quite common today, especially "High Distinction".
ReplyDeleteBut things get a bit messed up when they start to introduce "Super Distinction". Hehe...
like that aaa nowadays? funny esp when they translate cemerlang tinggi ? is there such word eheheh
ReplyDeleteThe terms r really funny, esp those in BM. :D Congrats, Fernie, for the fantastic results!
ReplyDeleteomg! With so many grading and it sound so funny!! Super Distinction? hahahhahahha
ReplyDeleteBut can see that your girl got very good result, well done Fernie, your mama sure very proud of you!
That "sweetheart" statement is so funny! hahahhaha
