Sounds kind of confusing but that is what we felt like when we went to Dai Cha Fan along Jalan D.S.Ramanathan, Penang. And why I said homely?
Firstly, most of the food are homecooked and we were served in a homely bungalow-styled house. Secondly, the food on the menu is "bottomless" or "endless" should we want to order the same food again and again, they would be served by two friendly staff. Thirdly, there is no time limit, we could sit as long as we want. But of course, we did not.... we went at 11plus and left around 4pm... not eating all the time, just chilling out and talking to the lady boss when she came out from the kitchen after the peak hour.
From what the lady boss told us, her son is the one who innovated this idea of allowing patrons to come and relax in the bungalow-styled with food served throughout the day. Not so much of making profits, so we were told and another reason is that she has a passion for cooking.
As for the pricing, it works this way.... one friend bought 10 coupons for the rate of RM600 and she has to use this up within 3 months, if I am not mistaken. The coupons are transferrable and that is why my friends and I (five of us) bought 5 coupons from her, totaling RM300. Of course, we need to book in advance one day before.... and overall, it was a wonderful experience and we wouldn't mind going there once again some day.
Upon entering the big bungalow.....
We were the "early birds"...
Tea was served while waiting for the food....
Yam char....
Started off with Dim Sum...
The black vinegar trotter was very nice too!
I think we asked for a few bowls to satisfy our cravings...
Taking a rest in the garden before high tea was served....
My kind of desserts....
Before we left, we thanked the lady boss
for the nice food and friendly hospitality....
and making us feel like VVIPs! :))
What an interesting concept! I am now so used to simple cooking and the the thought of doing this type of cooking makes me feel tired LOL! I salute the lady boss for making her love of cooking into a business venture.
ReplyDeleteI love their plates and bowls, the blue and white ones especially. Bottomless? Endless? Is it Eat all you can or do you have to pay for every order you make?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It all looks wonderful! We have bottomless food places, but not timeless. I think they want you out as soon as your finish eating.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of a "bottomless" menu concept before (other than bottomless drinks...lol) which is not the same as "all you can eat". And, on top of that, you can linger and chat for like 5 hours is also unheard of. Those in food business will want to "hurry" you off once you've eaten for a faster turnaround. Like you said, this is probably possible if the lady boss is not looking into making money but doing it as a passion. Does the lady boss live upstairs? ;)
ReplyDeleteRm60 for this food experience is quite good. Food looks good
